Design for the Whole Human Being

Where evidence meets intuition to create spaces that support wellbeing & authentic connection

Design Philosophy

Drawing on environmental psychology, biophilic design, and years of study into how built environments shape human wellbeing, we work at the intersection of science, design, and soul. We create homes, co-housing communities, retreats & wellness centers, and conscious workplaces that nurture authentic living, genuine connection, and ecological awareness.

Well by Design is an architectural and interior design studio based in Victoria, BC, led by Nora Bouz, founder and placemaker.

The essence of our work is deeply collaborative—engaging with people, the surrounding elements (built, social, ecological), and existing conditions in a process of co-creation. Our mission is to craft mindful spaces that honour quality, beauty, and elevate the lived experience.

Our approach

Why Spaces Matter

The spaces we inhabit shape how we feel, think, connect, and heal. Research in environmental psychology shows that our surroundings directly affect our physical health, mental wellbeing, and capacity for authentic relationships. Yet most design overlooks this deeper dimension—focusing on aesthetics and function while missing the fundamental question:

How does this space serve the whole human being?

We design with this question at the center.

Our work honours what can be measured and what can only be felt: how a threshold invites or excludes, whether a room fosters connection or isolation, supports creativity and focus or induces dullness, enables rejuvenation or drains vitality. We know that connection to the natural world is essential for human wellbeing, and follow the guidance of biophilic design to bring nature's most potent elements into every space—patterns of light and shadow, natural materials, living systems, the rhythms that ground us, and the mystery that intrigues and delights.

Every design choice has the potential to empower and foster resilience.

This is the work we're committed to.

Workplace

“We absolutely loved working with Nora. She is THE best! After having worked with several designers before her, we faced numerous challenges and unsatisfactory results that left us feeling frustrated and uncertain about our vision. However, from our very first meeting with Nora, it was evident that we had finally found the right professional.”

- Residential Client, Ontario

“Nora provided our organization with integrated planning support(…). Her holistic wellness design approach has allowed us to provide a new level of services to more people in a space that focuses on a mentally and physically improved environment. The care and attention to our staff, understanding the vision and the outcome of her design work was outstanding.”
